The DVD will be released by Acorn Media on the 9th June 2014, which seems to add some support to our suspicions that the show will be broadcast w/c 17th May. The BBFC has rated the DVD as a 15, but as yet there is no cover art for the release. However, there is a more detailed description of the production, which we have put under the spoiler button below.

From There to Here set to air in May?23/4/2014 ![]() We're hearing reports from several sources, including the Radio Times and Inside Media Track that Philip's new BBC drama 'From There to Here' will be airing in May. The drama is set in the aftermath of the 1996 IRA bombing of the Arndale shopping centre in Manchester and follows Daniel Cotton, a Manchester family man. who is torn between the life he wants and the life he could have. The exact transmission date is still to be confirmed by the BBC but we know it definitely won't air on Tuesdays, as that drama slot is reserved throughout May for Happy Valley and Wednsesday night is Panorama night, which is unlikely to change. It might be important to note, however that The Crimson Field will broadcast it's final episode on Sunday 11th May, so it is possible that From There to Here could fill the Sunday night 9pm slot from the 18th. If this happens, it will mean that Philip will be on Channel 4 at 8pm and then BBC One straight after at 9pm. Lucky us! As we say, this is all speculation at the moment but watch this space - we'll bring you more news as soon as we have it. ![]() The first episode of For the Love of Cars aired last night on Channel 4 to an audience of 1.4 million, who saw Philip help to restore a Ford Escort Mexico, try his hand at rallying and struggle with navigation. It also got a great reception in the Twittersphere, with people enjoying the nostalgia and commenting that it was 'a cracking programme' and 'brilliant Sunday night TV'. It appears to have a few celebrity fans too, including Jamie Oliver who tweeted: If you missed it, the episode will be available on 4od for the next few days.
We will also have a screencap gallery from the episode. ![]() Philip's iconic character, DCI Gene Hunt has come third in a Channel Five poll to find Britain's favourite detective, alongside his 70s sidekick, Sam Tyler. Gene, who appeared in both Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, beat legendary detectives such as Hercule Poirot (David Suchet), Inspector Morse (John Thaw) and Jack Frost (David Jason) to claim the third spot. He was only beaten by Columbo and Sherlock. As one of the contributors said, "In DCI Gene Hunt, without doubt you have got one of the greatest, the most memorable TV Detectives ever." The full top ten was as follows: 10. DCI Tom Barnaby (Midsummer Murders) 9. Miss Marple (Agatha Christie's Marple) 8. DI Jack Frost (A Touch of Frost) 7. Jonathan Creek (Jonathan Creek) 6. DI Alec Hardy (Broadchurch) 5. Inspector Morse (Morse) 4. Hercule Poriot (Agatha Chrisite's Poirot) 3. Gene Hunt and Sam Tyler (Life on Mars) 2. Columbo (Columbo) 1. Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock) ![]() Philip Glenister is reportedly in negotiations to star in the TV adaptation of Paul Mendelson's recent thriller, 'The First Rule of Survival'. Set in Cape Town, the book follows Colonel Vaughn de Vries as he revisits a case involving the abduction of three white schoolboys. Also eager for the role is Philip's Treasure Island co-star, Rupert Penry-Jones. The Telegraph reports that they are both in discussions with two separate production companies. Given that Philip is a close personal friend of Paul Mendelson, one would hope that the author might be able to exert some influence. It seems he is hopeful too. Speaking at the books official launch yesterday, Mendelson said: Ultimately, I guess the publisher decides and I guess I’m part of that decision. Phil is one of my oldest friends. I’ve known him for 30 years and he was in the back of my mind when I wrote it.” It's no secret what Philip thinks about this book; he attended the book's 'Poker Night' launch and provided the author with a quote for the book jacket, saying: It's a jaw-droppingly brilliant crime thriller. The characters, the setting, the layer upon layer of mystery are all masterfully realised. Imagine The Killing being moved to Cape Town and the icy Scandinavian landscape transformed into the relentlessly hot and dusty African veld. Just read it. We'll keep you up-to-date with more news as we get it. In the meantime, why not buy the book.

The screening will take place at the Princess Anne Theatre in London on Wednesday 7th May (6.45pm) and will be followed by a Q&A with the cast and creative team. Tickets are £7.50 and can be bought through the BAFTA website. Written by Peter Bowker (Eric and Ernie, Occupation, Blackpool),From There To Here tells the story of a city, an era and two families from different sides of the tracks whose lives are brought together in the aftermath of the 1996 Manchester bomb. The story spans the four years that changed Manchester, and the country, forever; fromThree Lions (Football's Coming Home) in 1996 to the hangover after the Millennium celebrations of 2000. Daniel Cotton (Philip Glenister) and his father Samuel (Bernard Hill) run a sweet factory and Daniel has the perfect Cheshire family, with his wife Clare (Saskia Reeves), son Charlie (Daniel Rigby) and daughter Louise (Morven Christie). His rough diamond/street wise brother Robbo (Steven Mackintosh) has had a serious rift with his father, and is immersed in the rough urban life of Manchester where he runs a night club. Daniel, Samuel and Robbo are caught up in the blast alongside hotel cleaner Joanne (Liz White). Their survival of a near death experience provokes changes in their lives that soon spin out of control. This story is told against the backdrop of a great northern city that is reinventing itself in the face of adversity and massive socio-economic change. The material damage to the city is echoed in the fault line running through the Cotton family's fractured relations. From There to Here is a 3x60-minute mini-series produced by Tim Bricknell (The Fear, Eric And Ernie), executive produced by Derek Wax (Occupation, The Hour) and Peter Bowker for Kudos Film & Television, and executive produced by Stephen Wright, Head of Drama BBC Northern Ireland. It is directed by James Strong (The Great Train Robbery, Broadchurch). |
