On Sunday 28th July 2013, Philip Glenister and his wife Beth Goddard attended the Audi International Polo at Guards Polo Club, Egham. Philip (who at some point had to put a tie on!) and Beth, who looked absolutely stunning, were all smiles as they watched the match and partook of the refreshments provided. The Audi International Polo is one of the world's greatest spectator polo days. Sponsored by Audi for the first time in 2012 and part of its three-match England test match series, this great day of polo is organised by Guards Polo Club and the Hurlingham Polo Association. This year, it also included a match between England and the USA for the Westchester Cup, a trophy that has not been played for on British soil in 16 years. England won that last match back in 1997 - captained by Howard Hipwood - and were keen to replicate that performance today. And they did. England were victorious with a 12-11 win; a golden goal the only thing separating the two teams. Also in attendance was Philip's Life on Mars co-star, John Simm and his wife Kate McGowan, Laurence Fox, Billie Piper, Matt Dawson and HRH the Prince of Wales (who presented the trophies). You can view more photos in our dedicated Audi International Polo gallery.
The BBC have released the first pictures of Philip Glenister as Mr Gunn in upcoming comedy 'Big School'. PE teacher and would-be lothario Mr Gunn is most definitely interested in the new French teacher, Miss Postern - and most of the other female teachers in the school. The alpha male of the Greybridge staff room, which isn’t saying much, Mr Gunn lives in a world where Jeremy Clarkson is a revered philosopher and living with your mum despite being middle-aged is totally fine - “She does all the cooking, all the washing, all the cleaning. I’m living the dream.” Mr Gunn is determined to “plough” Miss Postern – probably on Friday night when his mum is at seniors’ zumba. The BBC also released this video interview with Philip, in which he discusses the show and his character. (Warning: this video contains spoilers) Big School will air the week beginning 10th August (day and time to be confirmed).

Philip, Beth and their two children Millie and Charlotte attended a family summer tea party to celebrate the new cast of Mamma Mia stage show last weekend. Phil, who played Sam in a comic relief spoof of the Abba based-musical took his family to watch a special performance of the show at the Novello Theatre, which was followed by a summer tea party in the Palm Court at the Waldorf Hilton. You can view some pictures of the event on Dan Wooler's site (unfortunately we are not able to reproduce them here for copyright reasons). We are, however, able to bring you a video interview with some of the attendees including Phil, courtesy of the Daily Express. The BBC have today begun auctioning off more than 1,200 lots which have a strong connection with Television Centre - the iconic West London building which was the BBC’s home until earlier this year - including several costumes from Ashes to Ashes and posters from Life on Mars. The lots related to Phil's shows are as follows:
Tomorrow, 8th July 2013, sees the launch of a new free-to-air TV channel 'Drama'. Run by UKTV, the channel will replace their current 'Blighty' channel and will showcase the best of British drama including some of Philip's own projects. Already confirmed to broadcast on this channel are Cranford, in which Phil plays Mr Carter and Sharpe. The channel will be number 20 on Freeview and viewers will need to rescan their boxes/televisions to receive the update. Sky customers should receive the update automatically but as yet the channel number is unknown. There are no plans for this channel to be available on Virgin Media at the present time. As yet we have no confirmed dates or times for the broadcasts of shows/episodes starring Phil but you can keep up to date with our UK TV listings page (updated weekly). |
