#FromTheretoHere nominated at the Seoul International Drama Festival

29/4/2015

'From There to Here', Philip's BBC drama about the 1996 Manchester bombing, has been entered into the 2015 Seoul International Drama Awards in the Mini-Series category.

Due to this, there is also a chance the drama will be shown on Korean television. This year, for the first time, a select few of the entries will be shown on four of Korea's top TV channels to maximise the publicity of the awards.

Once all entries are in and the first round of judging is completed, the organising committee will look through the nominated shows and then make a list of recommended shows to broadcast in August. This list will be then distributed to the TV stations and they can make a selection.

Fingers crossed for Philip and From There to Here.

The Seoul International Drama Awards will be held on 10th September 2015.

Want to own the Quattro from Ashes to Ashes? Well now you can!

6/11/2014

Picture
In order to raise money for this years Children in Need appeal, the BBC are auctioning off the Audi Quattro that featured in Philip's hit 80's drama, Ashes to Ashes.

This is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a genuine piece of TV history - the original Audi Quattro used in all three series of the hit BBC drama Ashes to Ashes. The iconic red motor is also signed under the bonnet by Philip Glenister, who played its short-tempered owner, DCI Gene Hunt. This autumn, the Quattro was given a fresh MOT and a makeover. But she’s a former TV action vehicle and still has a number of battle scars from the exciting life she has led.

So, fire up your wallets if you want to fire up the Quattro, bidders!

Details:
  • Red 1983 Audi Quattro
  •  2144cc Turbo charged WR Engine
  • Four-wheel (4x4) drive
  • Freshly painted and with new MOT

The Audi Quattro
has been donated by the BBC and lovingly restored by Audi. BBC Children in Need or Audi do not accept any responsibility for the car and can not offer any warranty or guarantee. All the images which feature were taken at the end of October 2014. The logistics of collecting the car must be agreed by all parties.

Every single penny raised by the auction will go towards making a positive difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people right here in the UK. To bid, visit the Quattro's ebay page.

Philip Glenister to star in BBC's 'Hollow Crown'

1/10/2014

It has been announced today that Philip will join the cast of the BBC's Shakespeare series, 'The Hollow Crown: War of the Roses'.  The series comprises three of Shakespeare's plays; Henry VI Part 1, Henry V Part 2, and Richard III.

He will play Lord Talbot (The Earl of Shrewsbury) in Henry VI Part 1, alongside Sophie Okonedo (Queen Margaret), Hugh Bonneville (Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester), Adrian Dunbar (Plantagenet) and Michael Gambon (Mortimer).

Lord Talbot is presented as the epitome of a late medieval soldier; noble, chivalrous and fighting for the honor of king and country.

Phil's Ashes to Ashes co-star, Keeley Hawes is also working on this project, but she is set to be in Richard III.

Filming has begun this week on the series, but as yet there is no air date for it.

Disappointing start for series 2 of #BigSchool

30/8/2014

Series 2 of Big School got off to a somewhat disappointing start in terms of ratings last night, gaining just 2.85 million viewers overnight (14.2% audience share). This is less than any of the series 1 episode overnights; the opening episode of last series attracted 4.24 million, rising to 5.28 million after 7days.

The new series also received mixed reviews in the press and on social media. T
he Daily Mirror said:
As it returns for a second series, Big School really seems to have found its comedy feet. Big School is well enough written to survive Walliams' camp, asexual gurning and the dream cast add extra polish to an already shiny script.
The Daily Telegraph also enjoyed it, remarking that Big School has grown up
...the desperate misogyny had subsided into a gentle brand of juvenile wit. At times, [Philip] Glenister threatened to steal the show as Gunn, who had now been drafted in to teach Geography (or, as he beautifully puts it, jog-raffy, stress on the raff).
However, the Scottish Herald and The Independent were less than impressed with the episode, with the latter commenting that
Big School Series 2 doesn’t make the grade. The problem is that it's trying too hard to be funny. it isn’t quite sure what it wants to be. Is it a surreal comedy... a dramatic comedy... or it is the cringe-y schoolboy humour of Little Britain...?
The Twitter-verse was littered with comments about the show too; the majority quoting one-liners from the show or praising specific performances. We've retweeted a lot of those mentioning Phil, so check out our Twitter feed to see those.

When the consolidated ratings come in, the 2.85 million will rise but it's hard to see how this episode will come close to competing with last series. Hopefully, there will be an increase as the series goes on. Finger's crossed.

It is fair to say that out of all TV genres, comedy is probably the one that divides audiences the most. We don't all have the same sense of humour or laugh at the same things... if we did, the world would be a very strange place.

Perhaps mainstream BBC One isn't the best place for Big School at the moment, or perhaps it's suffering from being aired straight after another comedy that's aimed at a completely different target audience. What we can be sure of though, is that it's great to have Phil back on our screens, even if not everyone agrees!

Philip Glenister to read Book at Bedtime on @BBCRadio4

18/8/2014

Picture
Philip has recorded a 'Book at Bedtime' for BBC Radio 4 and it is due to air next week.

Spanning 25 years, Joseph O' Connor's new novel The Thrill of It All  rewinds and fast-forwards through an evocative soundtrack of struggle and laughter. It deals with the formation of a band in the early 80's in Luton, their struggle for recognition, playing low dives, living in transit vans culminating in overnight worldwide success. Then the inevitable, "artistic differences!" This is an incredibly warm-hearted and uplifting story for anyone who has ever loved a song.

For those unfamiliar with 'Book at Bedtime' it is a long-running radio show that began in January 1949. It airs every weeknight, offering a variety of fiction, including modern classics and
new works, abridged and serialised into 15 minute slots and read by well-known actors.

In the case of The Thrill of It All, there will be 10 episodes so the story will be told over two weeks and Philip is one of two actors taking part. He will play the part of Robbie and Ramon Tikaram (This Life, Eastenders) will play the part of Fran.

The Thrill of It All
begins on Monday 25th August at 22.45 on BBC Radio 4. (We will add it to the TV/Radio listings to remind you.) Non-UK based fans should be able to listen via BBC iPlayer for up to 7 days after broadcast.
