First charitable donation made!!30/9/2013 As you may be aware we have a partnership with Amazon.co.uk whereby we earn a small commission for every item purchased through our shop. (To find out more about how these shopping links work, visit our Shop FAQs page.) Today we are pleased to announce that having received our first payment from Amazon, a charitable donation of £37 has been sent to Momentum, a charity of which Philip is a patron. This commission was raised from January to the end of July (there is always a delay of 2 months before payment) and was made on total sales of £733.22. We don't know who you are, but we wish to say a big THANK YOU to all the fans who have made purchases from Amazon fansite shop. Your support is greatly appreciated and we hope you will continue with this support in the days to come. Here is the e-mail acknowledgement of our donation (click image to view a larger version): On the Moment-um donation page, it is possible to leave a comment when you make a donation. We indicated that the donation was made on behalf of Philip by visitors to this website. Unfortunately, this remark is not shown in the acknowledgement issued.
Momentum is a registered charity established in 2004 which aims to help children (up to the age of 17) and the families of children, undergoing treatment for cancer in Surrey and Greater London. It was set up by parents who have first hand experience of these life-changing events, with the simple goal of trying to help others in similar circumstances. We will continue to make donations to charities supported by Philip as and when we receive payment from Amazon (when we accumulate at least £25 commission). As you can see from the above figures the commission earned is quite small compared to the total amount spent, so we urge you to shop through the fansite wherever possible. You can buy anything that is sold on Amazon - it doesn't have to be Phil-related. Just use the Amazon search box on the shop page. At the time of writing (30th September) we have raised £6.60 towards our next donation but Amazon won't pay out until we hit £25, so please do support this venture, especially as it approaches time to think about Christmas shopping. If you struggle to remember, why not add our Shop URL to your favourites or bookmarks and label it as Amazon? Thanks again for all your support!! Philip Glenister is supporting a Hospice to Hospice Bike Ride to raise money for Shooting Star Chase; a charity a caring for families with a child or teenager with a life-limiting condition in western London, Surrey and West Sussex. The bike ride, which takes place on Sunday 29th September, will link the charity's two children's hospices. Last Friday (14th June) Philip once again hosted the annual Celebrity Golf Day for the charity, Momentum. Momentum aims to help children undergoing treatment for cancer and other life-limiting conditions (and their families) in Surrey and South West London, and Philip has been a patron for a number of years. The event was held at Richmond Golf Club, where Philip is a member of the Stage Golf Society, and twelve teams of four played a competition to Stableford Rules. Thankfully, the weather held out and the players were treated to glorious sunshine! The final total raised was a fantastic £6,048.75!! Well done to all involved! Here are some photos from the event. You can view more photos in the Golf Day album. (A big thank you to Momentum for making them available to us; we're very grateful!) Please do consider donating to this worthwhile charity, which does some fantastic work and makes a huge difference to the lives of children with cancer and other life-limiting conditions and their families. You can read about the work they do in more detail on the charity's official website.
You can do this by buying something through shop (as our first donation will be going to Momentum when we reach the required threshold of £25) or you can donate directly to the charity itself here or by sending a cheque to: Momentum 75 Park Road Kingston upon Thames Surrey KT2 6DE (All cheques should be made payable to Momentum) Alternatively, if you are looking to set up a more regular donation to Momentum through a direct debit, please visit this page. Philip at the BMW PGA Championship Q&A28/5/2013 Earlier in the week we reported that Philip had competed in the BMW PGA Pro-Am competition in aid or Shooting Star CHASE. Well, on Saturday he returned to Wentworth to take in some golf and to be put through his paces in 'Cotter's Questions' alongside golfer Justin Rose. BBC sports broadcaster Andrew Cotter interviewed both stars and they also took questions from the audience. Thanks to Blaine Conway (@BlaineyC) we are able to bring you a short video of Philip answering two questions; one about 'Life on Mars' and one about the day in the life of an actor. We recommend viewing this video in full screen. On Wednesday, Philip joined a host of other celebrities to play in the Pro-Am curtain raiser to this week's PGA tournament at Wentworth in support of Shooting Star CHASE. Also present were Jamie Redknapp, Andrew Strauss, Chris Robshaw and Theo Walcott plus another Shooting Star patron Chris Evans. The amateurs were challenged to take part in a ‘hit the green’ competition on the 14th hole, a tough, uphill par 3 in return for a donation to the charity, which was generously supported by all the players. The winners of the competition were Ian Poulter, Ian Botham and Jamie Carragher and Ian Wright, with a five shot win and a total of 20 under par. Tied for second were the teams of 2006 BMW PGA Champion David Howell, and 2013 Open de Espana winner Raphael Jacquelin.
The event raised more than £150,000 for Shooting Star CHASE, with £20,000 coming from each professional golfer donating their appearance fees. Find out more about the fantastic work that Shooting Star CHASE does on their official website. |
