Philip Glenister attends Shooting Star Chase Ball

2/10/2017

On Saturday, Philip attended the annual Shooting Star Chase ball, the charity's flagship fundraising event.

The event, which took place at The Dorchester on Park Lane, was hosted by radio legend Mike Read on the 50th anniversary of BBC Radio 1 and featured a set from Shooting Star Chase Vice President Tony Hadley.

300 guests enjoyed a five course meal by executive chef Henry Brosi before taking part in a live auction of money-can’t-buy lots including tickets to The X Factor final; Afternoon Tea with Dame Joan Collins and Julian Clary; a brand new bespoke Mini Cooper and a car owned by Shooting Star Chase Vice President Simon Cowell – which despite much persuasion by auctioneer Charlie Ross, Louis Walsh couldn’t be convinced to buy!

The total raised by the event is expected to exceed £250,000
A spokesperson for the charity , said: “The Shooting Star Chase Ball is always a very special evening and this year has been no exception. We are so thrilled and overwhelmed by the generosity from each and every one of our guests and their support will make a huge difference to the lives of the children and families we provide vital care for at our hospices.”

Shooting Star Chase is a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families in Surrey and London.

Celebrity Cup - Day 2

10/7/2016

The final day of the celebrity cup began with Team Wales facing England. Philip was paired up with Sir Gareth Edwards and faced Denise Van Outen and Anton Du Beke. You can watch the first shots from the match below.
It wasa good match for Phil, who made par on all but 2 holes. The match finished 6-3 to Wales.  In the overall individual standings, Philip finished joint 5th with Brian McFadden and Ioan Grufford.

Despite Team Wales winning two and drawing the other of their three round matches, it wasn't enough. They finished third in the group standing, setting up a playoff match with England.
In the final, Philip was paired with fellow actor Ioan Grufford and faced off against Chris Hollins and Ben Shepherd.  IThe first half of the match didn't go to well for Phil, who made a double bogey on the first three holes, but he improved dramatically in the second half making par or below on the final three holes and even a hole-in-one on the 8th.

Their match finished 4-3 with to wales but they narrowly lost the entire playoff 10-11.
The winners of the tournament were Scotland, who beat England in a dramatic final that went to sudden death.

Charity Auction: Life on Mars script signed by Phil and John Simm

21/6/2016

We are very excited to be able to announce that we are fundraising in partnership with one of the charities that Phil is patron of.

Momentum is a charity working locally in Surrey and South West London, supporting families whose children have cancer or a life-limiting condition.

To help our fundraising efforts, Phil has kindly donated an original Life on Mars script (for Series 2, Episode 4) signed by himself and co-star, John Simm. This was Phil’s own copy of the script and may contain notes about filming and dialogue changes.

The script is currently being auctioned through eBay, with a starting price of £100. THe auction will end on 27th Jun, 2016 at 12:29 pm BST.
Picture
All proceeds from this auction with go straight to Momentum to provide individually-tailored support through their family support programme, (offering emotional and practical help as well as a range of therapy services including music, dance and drama), to provide trips, treats and respite holidays to improve the facilities and healing environment for children during hospital stays.
If you are unable to bid for the script, please do consider making a small, one-off donation to support the work of this fantastic charity. (If you do this, be sure to mention the Fansite in the message box so we can keep a total of how much we have raised).

Philip Glenister helps Wales win #CelebCup @TheCelticManor

5/7/2015

Picture
Wales have won the Celebrity Cup for the first time, and couldn't have done it without a brilliant performance from Philip.

Philip, who qualifies to play for Wales because of his mother, admitted to feeling apprehensive ahead of the tournament. "I am bum-clenchingly nervous,” he said before teeing off. “I prefer to go down the Bubba Watson route and have plenty of noise on the first tee. I hate that moment when it all goes silent, it’s terrifying.”

Despite his apparent nerves, Phil put in great performances to win his first two matches on Saturday, firstly paired with Andrew Howard against Ireland's Ronnie Whelan and Brian Ormond, and then alongside Gareth Bale to beat Scotland's Alan Hansen and Kenny Dalglish, with Phil netting a hole in one on the fourth.

With Wales holding a narrow lead, Phil teamed up with team captain Rob Brydon for the third and final match on Sunday against England's Zoe Hardman and Matt Banahan. They won by two holes to set up a final against Scotland.

For the final, Philip was playing alongside Andrew Howard once more and faced Kenny Dalglish and Alan Hansen. Wales won all three of the matches in the final, Philip and Andrew winning by two holes.

Thanks to fans that were there on the day, we have a good number of photographs from the event which can be found in our dedicated 2015 Celebrity Cup gallery. We also have two videos courtesy of Celtic Manor Resort; the first is of Philip teeing off in Saturday's match against Scotland, and the second is of the Welsh celebration, where Philip has a little bit of an issue getting the cork out of his champagne bottle!

The event was held at the Celtic Manor Resort and was in aid of the Caron Keating foundation.
