Philip is to guest star in the second series of Apple TV's sci-fi series 'Foundation'. He will play dictatorial planetary ruler, Commdor Argo. Based on the award-winning novels by Isaac Asimov, “Foundation” chronicles a band of exiles on their monumental journey to save humanity and rebuild civilisation amid the fall of the Galactic Empire. It features an ensemble cast led by Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Lou Llobell and Leah Harvey. Not much is known about Phil's character, other than he will engage in a battle of wits with his enemy - another new character Hober Mallow, (played by fellow Brit, Dimitri Leonidas). Foundation season 2 launched worldwide on Apple TV+ on Friday, July 14 2023. Subsequent episodes in the 10-part series will now launch weekly every Friday.
Foundation marks Philip's first role in a show produced by a streaming platform, which may reduce your ability to see his performance. Luckily, however, Apple TV+ offers a 7 day free trial for new subscribers and a three-month trial if you purchase a qualifying Apple device. There's been a lot of talk about 'Lazarus' - the sequel to Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes - over the last few months with fans eager to know what happened to Gene, Sam, Alex and the rest of the team after the conclusion of Ashes. However, the shows creators took to Twitter today to announce that this now won't be happening. Matthew Graham (who has since deleted his Twitter account) posted the following: The original Life on Mars – made by Kudos – was shown for two seasons on the BBC between 2006 and 2007, drawing big audiences and critical acclaim for its tale of a policeman DI Sam Tyler (John Simm) who has an accident and finds himself taken back in time to 1970s Manchester and working alongside oldfashioned copper, DCI Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister).
The show drew praise for its mixture of mystery, science fiction and police procedural, and twice won the International Emmy Award for Best Series. Philip then took the character of Gene Hunt into a successful three-series sequel, Ashes to Ashes, co-starring with Keeley Hawes as DI Alex Drake. Co-creator Ashley Pharaoh did leave fans with a smidge of hope that they would receive the new material in some form. This Morning Interview24/5/2023 On Monday 22nd May, Philip appeared on ITV's daytime chat show This Morning to talk about his new BBC drama Steeltown Murders. He spoke about the show and how he worked on his Welsh accent - with his mum! He was also asked about the possibility of a return of Gene Hunt, but don't get your hopes up too quickly - despite what's been reported by the writers of Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, Phil said he didn't know if it would happen. Watch the interview in full below: BBC Radio 2: Tracks of my Years21/5/2023 Philip's taste in music is, by his own admission, broad; he'll give anything a go. This week, he sat down with Vernon Kay to talk about his favourite records on the BBC Radio 2 show 'Tracks of my Years'. From The Beatles to Harry Styles, Philip takes us on a journey through his life and work, picking the songs that evoke memories and mark special occasions (or, that his teenage daughter told him he had to choose! LOL).
