Mad Dogs finale watched by 440k

26/6/2013

The overnight viewing figures for Mad Dogs episode 4, suggest an audience of 440k; a 2% share. The episode has had mixed reviews from critics.

Personally, we here at PhilipGlenisterFans feel that this episode wasn't as strong as others this series; with a few strange and off-beat scenes. The chemistry between the Phil, John, Max and Marc was brilliant (as usual) but the episode was lacking in substance.

There were some nice touches though; look out for two of the four main actors showing off their real life talents, and a couple of throwbacks to first series.

The ending was curious, given that a fourth series has already been filmed and, according to the Sky voice over at the end of this episode, will air early next year. It will be interesting to see where they take the show from here; not just location wise, but in the character development also.

If you missed the final episode you can see it again on Thursday 27th June or Saturday 29th June at 9pm on Sky1 (10pm on Sky1 +1). You can also catch up with some images from all three series (and behind the scenes) on our Mad Dogs photo page.

What did you think about the final episode - do let us know by leaving a comment below.

Philip hosts the Momentum Celebrity Golf Day

17/6/2013

Last Friday (14th June) Philip once again hosted the annual Celebrity Golf Day for the charity, Momentum.
Momentum aims to help children undergoing treatment for cancer and other life-limiting conditions (and their families) in Surrey and South West London, and Philip has been a patron for a number of years.

The event was held at Richmond Golf Club, where Philip is a member of the Stage Golf Society, and twelve teams of four played a competition to Stableford Rules. Thankfully, the weather held out and the players were treated to glorious sunshine!

The final total raised was a fantastic £6,048.75!! Well done to all involved!

Here are some photos from the event. You can view more photos in the Golf Day album. (A big thank you to  Momentum for making them available to us; we're very grateful!)
Please do consider donating to this worthwhile charity, which does some fantastic work and makes a huge difference to the lives of children with cancer and other life-limiting conditions and their families. You can read about the work they do in more detail on the charity's official website.

You can do this by buying something through shop (as our first donation will be going to Momentum when we reach the required threshold of £25) or you can donate directly to the charity itself here or by sending a cheque to:
Momentum
75 Park Road
Kingston upon Thames
Surrey
KT2 6DE

(All cheques should be made payable to Momentum)

Alternatively, if you are looking to set up a more regular donation to Momentum through a direct debit, please visit this page.

Minster of Chance to be made into a film

13/6/2013

Picture
The Minister of Chance Sonic Movie series is making the transition from sound to vision.

The groundbreaking podcast is the World's first uncommissioned, fan-funded sci-fi/fantasy series, available to download free from www.ministerofchance.com or from iTunes. It is a sonic movie, made with film technique but using sound alone. The pilot episode was recorded using overdrafts, and it attracted a large and vocal Worldwide fanbase who crowd-funded the remainder of the six part series. It has also received a raft of ecstatic reviews. The stellar cast joined the project for low pay on the strength of the script, and were later joined by Tamsin Greig in Episode 3 and Philip Glenister and Jed Brophy in Episode 5 at their own request.

Production on the visual movie will begin in July, firstly on the pre-title sequence known as The Prologue. The self-contained segment, which introduces the character of Durian (played in the podcast version by Paul McGann) will be a standalone short film but also an advertisement to attract investment in the full-blown feature film. Producers Radio Static (producer Clare Eden and writer/director Dan Freeman) plan to adopt the same crowdfunding model to fund the short. In an innovation sure to excite fans – they will be able to buy props and costumes from the film on condition that they lend them to the production until it is complete. Funders – or Minister Moguls as they have become known, will then be able to own the pieces. The fundraising campaign will begin on 1st July.

There is no confirmed casting as yet for the visual movie, but we'll let you know as soon as we can if Philip will be starring in it!

You can watch a video of the announcement here:
You can also keep up to date on the project by following the Minister of Chance on facebook, twitter and through their official site.

Philip Glenister & 'Doctor Who' speculation

6/6/2013

Since Matt Smith's announcement that he is leaving Doctor Who at the end of the year, we've seen a lot of people talking online about who should be the next Doctor.  We are seeing Philip's name banded about all over the place; he's even 20/1 on the favourites list to get the part.

We have no concrete information either way but what we do know is this: he has has previously stated that he doesn’t want the job. At the press Q&A for Hidden back in 2011, he was asked what was the most ridiculous thing he’d read about himself in a newspaper.
That I’m going to play Doctor Who. That’s it’s between me and John Simm for the role.
He was then asked would he want to do that. He said:
No. No. God! I’m too old; it’s been done. It’s just not my bag.
You can listen to the interview here (it’s the 6th one down); the discussion starts at around 18mins 20secs.

Of course, this doesn't mean he won't do it (and let's face it - it would be fantastic if he did!) but we would urge any fans considering betting on the identity of the next doctor to take into account the above information and air on the side of caution.

Mad Dogs Episode 1: Ratings and Reviews

5/6/2013

The first episode of Mad Dogs Series 3 gained an audience of 507,000, making it the most watched programme on Sky1 last night. This is slightly lower than the first two series, but it did have stiff competition from a number of other channels.

It has had mixed reviews from the critics, some wondering about the extreme lengths that the plot seems to go to. The Metro, The Telegraph and The Independent liked it, The Daily Mail didn't.

What did you think? Let us know here. If you missed it, there are further chances to see the episode tonight and tomorrow - see our TV listings page for details.

Also today, Sky have released the synopsis for episode 4 which has allowed us to complete our Series 3 episode guide. They have also announced that a special documentary, 'Mad Dogs: Behind the Madness' will air on Tuesday 25th June at 10pm (following directly on from the series finale).
