![]() Philip has recorded a 'Book at Bedtime' for BBC Radio 4 and it is due to air next week. Spanning 25 years, Joseph O' Connor's new novel The Thrill of It All rewinds and fast-forwards through an evocative soundtrack of struggle and laughter. It deals with the formation of a band in the early 80's in Luton, their struggle for recognition, playing low dives, living in transit vans culminating in overnight worldwide success. Then the inevitable, "artistic differences!" This is an incredibly warm-hearted and uplifting story for anyone who has ever loved a song. For those unfamiliar with 'Book at Bedtime' it is a long-running radio show that began in January 1949. It airs every weeknight, offering a variety of fiction, including modern classics and new works, abridged and serialised into 15 minute slots and read by well-known actors. In the case of The Thrill of It All, there will be 10 episodes so the story will be told over two weeks and Philip is one of two actors taking part. He will play the part of Robbie and Ramon Tikaram (This Life, Eastenders) will play the part of Fran. The Thrill of It All begins on Monday 25th August at 22.45 on BBC Radio 4. (We will add it to the TV/Radio listings to remind you.) Non-UK based fans should be able to listen via BBC iPlayer for up to 7 days after broadcast. |
