Island at War (2004)

Island at War is set in the fictional Channel Island of St Gregory during the Second World War. It tells the harrowing story of how three families are affected by the German occupation and how they managed to live and work alongside the enemy for five years.
The three families are; the upper-class Dorrs, whose son is at war but unexpectedly returns, the middle-class Mahys, shopkeepers recovering from the loss of the head of their family and the working-class Jonases who are very tight knit and endeavour to make the best of a bad situation.
Heart stopping suspense and an unexpected romance unfold in an atmosphere steeped in the ambiguity and senselessness of war.
Island at War aired on ITV from 11 July – 15 August 2004

Baron Heinrich Von Rheingarten
Oberst (Colonel) Baron Heinrich Von Rheingharten is the commandant of the island of St. Gregory, in charge of everything that happens there. He is married and has two sons also fighting in the war. The Baron is not a Nazi in the true sense of the word; he is just loyal to his army and his country. He's also no pushover. He will not be made to look a fool and isn't afraid of making tough decisions, but he understands the frailties of human nature. There is a spark between him and Mrs Dorr, and they form an uneasy alliance but this is tested when Mrs Dorr's son, Philip is caught spying on the Germans.

- Island at War had an estimated budget of £9,000,000.
- It was rumoured that another batch of episodes was to be produced, possibly taking place months or even years after the original six, and would provide a true ending to the show. This will most likely never occur, however, largely due to the death of writer Stephen Mallatratt
