Mad Dogs? We're more like the Beatles!
MAD Dogs actor Marc Warren thinks he and his co-stars are like pop legends The Beatles.
Marc, Philip Glenister, John Simm and Max Beesley are great mates on and off set — and writer Cris Cole even thinks of them as a family.
“So Phil would be the dad and Jon would be the mum, Max is the good child and I’m the naughty one,” he said. “But we like to think of ourselves as The Beatles. I think Phil is John Lennon, Max is Ringo Starr, John is Paul McCartney and I would be George Harrison.”
Marc kick-started the idea behind the hit series after writing about a reforming middle-aged rock band. Cris adapted the story to four old school pals meeting up in Majorca — resulting in the ratings-busting Sky 1 show.
Co-star Max, whose musician dad Maxton has a guest role in the new series, said: “We’ve been so fortunate with this job. There wasn’t a day we didn’t pinch ourselves. We’re incredibly close friends in real life. We speak and email each other at least once a week.”
The third series — running from June 4 — sees the lads’ run of bad luck continue on holiday in Morocco and later Cape Town, where they are interrogated in a prison in the middle of the desert. Yet the cast insist filming in sun-drenched South Africa was definitely not a holiday — with little time to enjoy the location in between shooting.
Marc added: “This is the only job where they make you get a suntan. On day one, they put us all in paper pants and then they spray-tan us. Then we have to sunbathe until our tan is up to the spray tan and we don’t need to do the spray tan any more.”
