Living the Dream Series 1 Episode Guide
Living the Dream Series 1 aired air on Sky One from Thursday 2nd November 2017. It comprised 6 episodes.
Series Overview
The series follows a British family, The Pembertons - husband Mal, wife Jen and two kids Tina (17) and Freddie (15) - who decide it’s time to leave grey, old England and move lock, stock and barrel to the Sunshine State of Florida. Travelling on an ‘Investor’s Visa’, Mal buys a decaying Recreational Vehicle Park [translation: Caravan Park] which he and Jen have big plans to renovate - if only she can escape the clutches of the desperate housewives in their neighbourhood. The kids are quickly plunged into High School life, a culture clash of daily pledges of allegiance to the flag, cheerleading practice and the wrong kind f football.
Of course, living the dream is not as simple as Mal, the eternal optimist, had hoped. The Kissimmee Sunshine Park is badly run down, the disgruntled ex-manager launches a vendetta and the residents are not exactly thrilled with the new owner being ‘a Goddam Australian’ - especially ex-wrestler Troy, who sets an unfriendly alligator on Mal as a welcome present. New neighbour Rhoda makes it her project to introduce Jen to the neighbourhood and soon she and her well-groomed friends are scheming to turn Jen into one of them. But Jen’s focus is less on botox conditioner and intimate bleaching and more on transforming the park into a profitable business with Mal – who she rightly thinks needs her realism and attention to detail.
At High School, shy Freddie finds it hard to make new friends and retreats into his obsession with making music – which attracts an unlikely new buddy. Tina’s also struggling to fit in, until she catches the eye of school quarterback Conan on the athletics field and their chemistry builds. But Conan has a very different approach to dating than the one Tina had back home…
Written by Mick Ford (The Five), LIVING THE DREAM is a cleverly observed comedy drama full of great storylines and warm, eccentric, vivid characters. It’s a big new series about how only the love of your family and the support of friends will get you through the day-to-day madness of starting a new life in a brash new country where you will forever be ‘divided by a common language’.
