Philip was filming in Blackpool this week and local photographer Darren Lewis was on site to get some shots which he has very kindly agreed to let us feature here. In the scene, a very brave Philip is filmed being knocked over by an approaching car.

The second series of hit ITV drama 'Prey' began filming this week in Manchester and yesterday Philip was on set in Eccles, first at the Old Bull's Head pub and then in the local shopping precinct.
Thanks to Anthony Mills (@ecclesman) we can bring you some great behind the scenes shots of Philip. Filming is well underway for the second series of Big School and the cast were spotted filming in the sunshine today by the Daily Mail. Philip, who plays lothario gym teacher Mr Gunn, is once again sporting blonde highlights for the role, but seems to have a new tracksuit.
That's a wrap on From There to Here26/10/2013 Filming on Phil's new BBC drama 'From There to Here' has wrapped. The final shoot took place on Friday (25th) with the wrap party being held in Manchester on Friday night. The show will now go into post-production and we begin our wait to see the finished product, which we're expecting early next year. In the meantime catch up on some filming reports from one of our admin team and fan, Louise. As for what Phil will be up to now, well we're hearing rumours of a new show for Channel 4. There is nothing official, but we've got our ears to the ground and will let you know of any more information when we have it. Yesterday (4th October), Philip Glenister and other cast members of 'From There to Here', including Liz White were spotted filming scenes in Southport. There filmed a car scene on Marine Drive Car Park and then a scene on Southport Pier.

After seeing on Twitter that Philip was filming in Manchester City Centre’s northern quarter, we dispatched our Manchester-based admin to go and see what she could see. Here’s her report… (as always, click on images to view larger versions). After quickly finishing my Sunday dinner, off I went. I arrived in the city at just about half past four and made my way to the location, which was the NCP car park on Tibb Street. (For those of you that know Manchester, this is in front of Sacha’s Hotel and Afflecks Palace.) The car park had black boards up around two sides of it and parked on it where several 90’s police cars, ambulances and a fire engine. It was rather quiet, but as the few crew members who were there weren’t packing up I decided to wait it out for a bit. Quite a few people walking past looked concerned that there had been an actual crime, despite the emergency vehicles clearly being out of date. I explained to a couple of people that it was the BBC filming a drama etc. About half an hour later I overheard a conversation saying that cast should be arriving in about 15 minutes and that they were going to finish off filming from this morning. After speaking to a couple of security guards, neither of whom knew who Phil was (shocking!), I managed to speak to a couple of crew members and they said he was possibly coming back, but they weren’t sure. Again I decided to hang around and about 20 minutes later a people carrier pulled up and out stepped Liz White and Phil!! He entered the set and started chatting to producers as the scene was being set up. After having his make-up touched up he and Liz were stood around for about ten minutes, laughing and joking with each other to pass the time. At one point Phil started pointing something out to Liz – I wonder if it was from their time on Life on Mars. Just before the scene began filming a police helicopter flew over, delaying the start by a couple of minutes and Philip was clearly very interested, looking up at the sky and wondering what was going on. Then they called action and Phil and Liz when from chatting and joking to in their characters in a matter of milliseconds. Quite a talent to have. The scene was an aftermath scene, taking place shortly after the bomb detonates. Phil had his arm around Liz, who was dressed in a dark blue apron, and was leading her towards the paramedics. “Excuse me!” he called in his Mancunian accent, although it wasn’t as rough as Gene’s. “This lady’s been ’urt. Can someone take a look?” He hands Liz’s character over to a paramedic and then looks around that the ‘devastation’ (which I assume will be put in later via the wonders of CGI). He had his hand on the back of his neck as he surveyed the scene and looked quite shaken. He then spoke to another paramedic, but we couldn’t hear what was being said. From the look on Phil’s face though I assume he was told that it had been a bomb, rather than something like a gas explosion. He took another look around before being summoned back to Liz’s character. Then the director shouted cut! Great work from all involved. The extras for the scene included a couple in wedding attire, so not a good day for them in the show! They moved a few vehicles around and shot the scene from a different angle. This angle took two goes to get right, but it wasn’t anything Phil/Liz had done wrong. Then a voice came over the crew’s walkie talkies to say that Liz was released and Phil needed to go and change for the next scene. As he returned to his car, he walked right passed me but I was too star-struck to actually call out to him. Plus he was surrounded by crew etc. and I went a bit shy. I cursed myself as soon as the car drove off but resigned myself to the fact that that was it – at least I’d seen him and I got to see some filming. I began the walk back to my car and as I did so noticed some of the crew walking past me with equipment on a trolley. It so happens that the location for Phil’s next scene was at the junction of Mangle St/Back Piccadilly – which was on my way to the car park. It’s a bit of a back alley and looks like the entrance to a nightclub… I hung around for a bit more, watched them set up a scaffold for lighting etc. but it started to get dark and I was alone in the city, on the evening of the derby football match. There was already a heavy police presence indicating trouble so with one last wistful look at the set in front of me, I turned around and left. Hopefully, as the whole thing is being filmed up here, I will get another chance to meet Phil, but if not – I got to see him work his magic as an actor, and I think that’s just as good! Well, there you go – we’ll add this to out fan reports page as well. Photos will also go in the From Here to There image gallery.
We also have a selection of photos from Rachel (@thereadaftbear) who was lucky enough to see the morning shoot. Thanks for letting us use these Rachel! |
