The Hollow Crown: War of the Roses (Henry VI Part One)

Henry V is dead and as concern grows regarding whether his son and heir is capable of of running the country in such tumultuous times, word arrives of military setbacks in France; Joan of Arc is leading a rebellion.
As well as this, the young king has to deal with a petty quarrel between Richard Plantagenet, and the Earl of Somerset, of the House of Lancaster, which has expanded to involve the whole court. During this time Richard learns that his father was once in line for the throne and vows to claim his birthright. To placate him, Henry VI makes him Duke of York.
As the fighting continues in France, Lord Talbot, the English General, sends word for reinforcements, but the conflict between Richard and Somerset leads them to second guess one another, and neither of them send any men, both blaming the other for the mix-up. The English army are subsequently destroyed and the future of English politics is looking decidedly uneasy...
Henry VI: Part One deals with the loss of England's French territories during the Hundred Year War and the political machinations leading up to the Wars of the Roses, as the English political system is torn apart by personal squabbles and petty jealousy.
Episode one aired on BBC Two on Saturday 7th May 2016 as part of the BBC's Shakespeare season. It drew in just over 1 million viewers and a 5.8% share of all TV viewing in its slot

Talbot (Earl of Shewsbury)
General of the English troops in France, Talbot is so feared by the French that, when he is captured, they have archers guard him even while he sleeps. After being released, he conquers many towns and fortifications in France, until he encounters Joan of Arc. Joan breaks the English' siege on Orléans, but Talbot still has some fight in him. Talbot represents a dying breed of noble chivalrous soldiers fighting for the honour of king and country.

- Henry VI: Part One, also features another of Philip's Ashes co-stars... Martin Dunbar, who played Martin Summers.
- Henry VI is normally split into 3 parts, but for the TV production, all three have been combined into 2 episodes, with the third episode being Richard III.
